E2W SAFE BUDDY RESCUE COURSE (IN PERSON)

Course Description: Element Freediving and East 2 West have teamed up to Introduce the Safe Buddy Rescue Course. This one day, in person course aims to fill a gap in safety education for spearos, snorkellers and anyone who has yet to take a freediving course.

In this 1 day course, you will discuss in depth the potential risks involved with snorkelling, and shallow water freediving in BC, the physiology that leads to blackout, breathing techniques to mitigate blackout risks, proper buddying communication and safetying protocols. Most importantly, you will learn and drill rescue techniques for dealing with a diver who has blacked out until it becomes second nature. At the end of this course, you will feel confident and empowered to connect with other ocean lovers and be ready for worst case scenarios.

The group size is intentionally kept small - no more than four divers per instructor - to ensure each participant receives personalized coaching throughout the day. With two instructors and up to eight students, you’ll benefit from focused guidance while still enjoying a supportive group environment.

Pre-requisites: Must be able to swim. Have fins (rentals possible contact E2W). (Spring suit or <3MM wetsuit recommended).

Disclaimer: This course is NOT a Molchanovs or certified freediving course and is not intended as a replacement for or alternative to a freediving course. Subjects are explored much more in-depth as part of a full freediving course, and it is highly recommended you take one if you are spending time holding your breath in the ocean and want to safely progress in depth and dive time. 

This day will be split between East 2 West Freediving (2018 Douglas street) and Crystal Pool, (2275 Quadra Street).
